Glucose Screenings

  • Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, renal disease, and amputation and leads to increased mortality, primarily from cardiovascular events.
  • Studies have shown convincing evidence that available screening tests accurately detect type 2 diabetes during an early, asymptomatic phase.
  • Unless appropriate action is taken, it is predicted that there will be at least 350 million people in the world with type 2 diabetes by the year 2030. This is double the current number.  Equally alarming and less well known is the fact that, of these people, only around one half are aware of their condition or risk.
  • There is a long, latent, asymptomatic period in which the condition can be detected
  • A substantial proportion of people with type 2 diabetes are undiagnosed
  • A substantial proportion of newly-referred cases of type 2 diabetes already have evidence of the micro-vascular complications of diabetes
  • Takes a smart step towards reducing health care costs, decreasing absenteeism and increasing productivity by building a healthier workforce.
